The Midway, formerly Syndicate Worlds Mobile Unit B-78, is the sole battleship of the Midway star system under the command of Kapitan Freya Mercia.
History of Service[]
Construction and capture by Midway at Kane[]
The B-78 was built on Taroa's shipyards. It was intended to reinforce the Syndicate Worlds Mobile Defense Forces, but with all the confusion and chaos of the Syndic Worlds, the CEO in command of Taroa became convinced than he can take the ship for himself, so, while pretending to gave it to the Syndic Worlds, he in fact sent it to the nearby system of Kane, with a skeleton crew to finish it in the local shipyards.
However, the ship was a too much tempting target: after Kane's population began protesting against the Syndic yoke, the local CEO decided to take the B-78 for himself. He sent an attack team of Internal Security Service agents, posing as a regular supply ship. Sub-CEO Tanshivan received them, but when they began slaughtering all the crew, he managed to warn the rest before being killed.
The second in command, a young Sub-Executive named Kontos, obeyed his superior's last order to close the ship's three Citadels, saving those who were inside. The Snakes didn't see their mistake until they found the Citadels closed. Fearing to damage the ship, the Snakes awaited for weeks, expecting the survivors to open the Citadels when they were hungry enough.
But, before that, a third party, also wanting to steal the mobile unit, arrived: the Midway Flotilla, lead by rebel president Gwen Iceni. During the First Battle of Kane, they defeated the Syndic forces and boarded the B-78, slaughtering the Snakes. Only then Kontos opened the Citadels. Kontos took charge of making the ship ready to move, and was commissioned in Midway's Flotilla as a Kapitan-Leytenant by Iceni, receiving the position of acting-commanding officer of the B-78, renamed the Midway.
Refit[]
Once in Midway, the ship was docked to the system's orbital shipyards to be finished. During the process, the Enigma race attacked the system, on the Second Battle of Midway. Thanks to Kontos precautions, the unfinished ship was used to displace the station, saving it from an Enigma kinetic bombardment.
Weeks later, after Ulindi's forces launched the Attempt to Steal the Battleship, the Midway was used to lure into a trap the attacking flotilla. Midway's ground forces under the command of Colonel Gaiene defeated the boarders and in turn captured the enemy's capital ship, which was renamed Pele.
