Fail is a relative term. I’ve had to deal with pretty high standards in my life. You’re going to have to deal with much higher ones.

—Michael Geary describing his Military Career to John Geary

Commander Michael Geary is an officer in the Alliance Navy. The commander of the battle cruiser Repulse, Geary was also the grandnephew of Captain John "Black Jack" Geary. Despite this, Michael Geary actually appeared older than his granduncle, due to John Geary's extended time in survival sleep.

Biography[]

Life before Capture[]

Born on the Alliance planet of Glenlyon, Michael Geary had grown up in his famous granduncle's shadow, causing him and his sister, Jane, to deeply resent their believed-to-be-deceased relative. At age 12 both Michael and When he was old enough, he was forced to join the Navy, just like his father and sister, because it was expected of a Geary. He eventually took command of the battle cruiser Repulse and, when Admiral Bloch was able to acquire and make use of a Syndicate hypernet key, Geary became a part of the Alliance Fleet launching an attack on the Syndicate home system, Prime. Along the way, the fleet stopped at Grendel, where they accidentally found Michael's granduncle, John Geary, who had been in survival sleep since his supposed death at the Battle of Grendel. With John Geary now in tow, the Alliance Fleet continued to Prime, but the attack ultimately turned out to be a trap, resulting in high Alliance casualties and the Repulse taking heavy damage.

Following the fake death of Admiral Bloch, John Geary was forced to take command of the fleet during a temporary cease fire. During this period, John Geary discovered and contacted Michael on the Repulse. During their short conversation, Michael Geary was terse and rude, refusing to go into any detail about their family. During the withdrawal from the Syndicate home system, it became clear that the vital auxiliary ship Titan would not be able to escape unless another Alliance ship sacrificed itself to hold off the Syndicate forces. Realizing this, Michael Geary volunteered his ship, justifying the decision by pointing out that the Repulse was damaged and struggling to keep up anyway. During the time leading up to this fateful decision, Michael Geary had come to grudgingly respect his granduncle, and to sympathize with him. Michael Geary demanded that John Geary not forget about the crew of the Repulse, many of whom were sure to be captured by the Syndicate and imprisoned in a labour camp. Michael Geary's last communication to the Alliance fleet was a request to John Geary, asking him to find Michael's sister, who served aboard the Dreadnaught, and to "Tell her I didn't hate you anymore."

Michael Geary was presumed lost when his ship was destroyed, though John Geary has lingering doubts and hopes his grandnephew may still be alive. According to Admiral Bloch, Michael was indeed alive in a Syndicate labour camp and he was willing to give Michael's location in exchange for Admiral Geary's protection against the Defender Fleet. Unfortunately, Bloch most likely perished when the Defender Fleet was destroyed, leaving Michael Geary's location and status unknown.

Escaping the POW camp[]

Michael languished in a cell, until an unknown female executive entered. She was Destina Aragon, a Tigre infantry Executive, which had an offer to him: to set him free in exchange of a ship and freedom to return to the Alliance, after Michael had brought her men to their home system, Anahuac. He agreed, but only if she freed all the prison's other Alliance prisoners. After the Tigres rebelled, a pair of Internal Security Service agents tried to kill him, but were executed by two Tigres. These appears to be preparing to kill Michael too when Destina ordered them to let him live... and, ironically, only achieved that revealing them than he was Black Jack's scion.

Destina arrived shortly, bringing him a spacesuit, and ordered him to follow her. He argued, because the Alliance prisoner's aren't free still, but she explained him than first they've to take their transport: a Syndic Battle cruiser full of Snakes. During the boarding action, Michael asked for a weapon, and Destina gave him a pistol, and both fought together to take the ship's bridge citadel.

When the Tigres were transferring the Alliance's prisoners to the ship, they resisted, but Michael tell them the situation, and the freed prisoners cooperated... for the moment.

Commanding the captured ship Corsair[]

Michael's job as a captain wasn't easy: talking with the freed Alliance prisoners managed to convince and organize them into an improvised crew, but soon, problems began to appear. One was the ship's itself: controls were very complicated and locked. The crew had to work under their formers guards, the Tigres, which distrusted them and were ready to kill any of them by a bad move. However, they managed to put the ship into motion... leaving the prison camp, which Aragon make blow, towards a Syndic Heavy cruiser which knew of their evasion.

Another problem arise soon after, and this an inside one: major Guerrero the leader of the Marines now free, led their men into an assault, attempting to take the ship and kill the Tigres. Geary was forced to leave the bridge and, along with Aragon, calm the situation before anybody was killed, which they accomplished... barely.

Once again in the bridge, Geary was forced to led the ship into a battle against the Syndic cruiser... with shields at minimum strength and almost all weapons locked. Aragon let him led the battle as he wanted, so he, cunningly, avoided combat, winning the time to unlock the remaining weapons. In the next confrontation between both ships, he make sure the battle cruiser weapons only activated in the last seconds. The Heavy cruiser was crippled, and Geary's ship almost intact. After finishing the Syndic ship, Geary led his own towards the jump point.

Before reaching it, he decided to rename the ship instead of using it's syndic designation, D-555. As Aragon opposed to the use of typical Alliance names, Geary decided than, as they've stole the ship like pirates, he will name it Corsair.

Raiding a POW Camp[]

Tensions between the Tigres and Alliance were high, and when Destina, to keep some troops aboard Corsair while raiding a Syndic prison camp to free other Tigres, asked him to led some marines, Michael was surprised, but both managed to work together. Geary convinced mayor Guerrero to cooperate. the assault on Ravana was a success... in part: the captive Tigres have been moved, but some Alliance prisoners were freed.

Geary later led the Corsair in a space battle against two loyalist Syndic heavy cruisers and two Light cruisers. There, Destina's help was key, as she managed to pose as a syndic CEO, and the attack caught the syndics unprepared. After destroying all enemy ships, Geary ordered the Corsair to move toward Kane, to rescue the Tigres and their families. Destina thanked him his help.

Reunion with the Alliance Fleet[]

Between their second battle and the arrival to Kane, the Corsair must have fought some battle, and their farce of being syndics, discovered, because when they arrived to Kane, they had exhausted their grapeshot ammo, and the fuel cells are barely above a level of fifteen percent. Still worse, a superior Syndic fleet was following them.

On Kane, they found an unexpected surprise: a joint Midway-Alliance flotilla which arrived to liberate the system, led by John Geary itself, along with a second Syndic flotilla. Their leader, the CEO Grandon, ordered them to join his fleet in attack against the Alliance fleet. Thanks to Destina, the CEO ignored their real affiliation.

Michael contacted his great uncle, explaining how they've get there, and offering to help. Black Jack ordered him to survive until they were near enough to assist the Corsair.

Corsair's farce was revealed when their pursuers arrived. The Second Battle of Kane focused around Corsair, as Grandon focused so much to destroy Michael's ship than the Syndic's units were crushed under First Fleet's assaults. Corsair managed only to damage a heavy cruiser, and was badly damaged, but survived. Michael and Destina boarded Alliance's flagship, Dauntless, to talk about how to liberate Kane's planet and free the Tigres families. Then Michael was informed than Tanya Desjani and his great uncle were married. Only then he realized John Geary was really human.

After liberating Kane, Michael descended to the planet's surface to say farewell to Destina. Once in Midway, he had to renounce command of Corsair, giving it to Kane, which he regretted a little, but did it anyway. He was transferred to his sister's ship to reunite with Jane.

Return Home and resignation[]

Some time later, Michael saw the admiral again. Like all the Corsair's crewmembers, he was returning to Alliance territory. He made a confession to his great-granduncle: during the battle of Kane, he froze, unable to act, paralyzed by fear and indecision. He knew he was broken, after so many battles. And when the admiral pointed than there were medications, Michael said than he didn't want to be treated: he wanted to leave the fleet and the military, after his return. his Great-Uncle gave him his blessing, and they both talked about Glenyon. Michael wanted to take care of the Repulse's survivors, his last mission. John informed him about Destina Aragon's whereabouts, and Michael informed the admiral about two problematic captains on the first Fleet, which had contacted him, to ask his support for unknown reasons.

Soon after, Michael's ship, the transport Chinook, entered Midway's Hypernet gate without problems. The data given by Michael proved to be invaluable to the admiral later, to uncover another conspiration.

However, after meeting the real John Geary, began appreciating him gradually. When they meet at Midway, they deepy respected and appreciated each other, like a real family.

Destina Aragon[]

Michael's relations with Destina were hard at the beginning, as he saw her as another syndic, and she as a stupid and fool, but after raining Ravana's prison camp, became much more respectful. When his granduncle and Tanya Desjani meet both, suggested her and Michael can have feelings for each other. Michael denied it, and, anyway, their separation in Kane make any hypothetic relationship impossible.
