Destroyer

The Destroyer is a type of small warship type used by the Alliance that are used as escorts, couriers and scouts. The Syndicate uses the more numerous but smaller and less capable Hunter-Killer warships in comparable roles. Destroyers are the fastest of Alliance warships, but boast humble offensive and defensive capabilities and generally suffer the most casualties in fleet engagements. They comprise the bulk of an Alliance fleet and like light cruisers, are usually organised in squadrons rather then divisions like heavy cruisers and capital ships.

In the Pre-Alliance era destroyers were used as the main combat ships in the new colonies with cutters being used as escorts by some colonies, they were described as looking like Barracudas.
