Colonel Conner Gaiene was a brigade commander serving under General Drakon.

Biography[]

Early life and career in the Syndicate forces[]

Conner Gaiene was a soldier of the Syndicate Worlds during an unknown amount of the Alliance-Syndicate War. His career was long, and he survived at several battles. In some moment he married with a fellow soldier, Lara, but she died in another battle, saving him from an Alliance ambush. Since then, Conner continued serving as a soldier, but without any discipline. However, he attained the rank of Sub-CEO. His survival of the Internal Security Service agents was due only to his superior, Artur Drakon's protection.

Midway Revolution[]

Conner followed loyally Drakon after the end of the war, being deployed under his command in Midway. During the Midway Revolution, Conner led his brigade at the assault of at least a Snake facility, and later assisted helping calming the population. As the other Sub-CEO, he become a colonel after Midway's independence.

Taroa[]

Conner's brigade was one of those send to assist Taroa in their fight against the Syndic Loyalists. He lead them in an assault of Syndic positions. Intelligence was defective, and they weren't dropped near the Syndic's quarters, but above them. They were forced to fight and shoot at every direction, but managed to survive. After the end of the Battle of Taroa, he celebrated it, as always, getting drunk and laid.

Boarding action[]

Conner's brigade had barely returned to Midway when they should face another crisis: an attempt of supreme CEO's Haris to steal the Midway, a Battleship in construction. However, Drakon managed to know it with time, and send part of Conner's brigade to defend the ship and board the Syndic Battle cruiser. The Attempt to Steal the Battleship was a risky operation, but Ulindi's boarders were slaughtered, and Gaiene's troops successfully boarded the attacking ship. In a lightning assault, they successfully invaded the battle cruiser. Conner led personally the bridge's citadel party, convincing the ship's captain to surrender peacefully. The ship was renamed the Pele.

Ulindi and death[]

The Battle of Ulindi was the last one for Conner. Once more, his brigade was sent to a planet's liberation, in this case, Ulindi, but he somehow perceived his end was very near. The system was a gigantic Syndic trap, and a full division was awaiting Midway's troops. Their only survival chance was to frontally assault a fortified base. Conner said Drakon than his second, Safir, was able to succeed him... if it was necessary. He was right about his fears: the base's defenses wounded him when he led the assault, but he continued shooting and ordering his troops to advance, the base's sensors detected he was a leader and concentrated his fire on him, killing him.

Drakon was deeply affected by his friend's loss, and barely restrained himself to executing the Syndic loyalist's prisoners whom may have killed him.

Characteristics[]

Conner Gaiene's personality before losing his wife was unknown, but after that, he may be described as a zombie: he spent all the time awake drinking alcohol or sleeping with women or trying to. However, in combat he was a reckless fighter which didn't fear the death. In fact, he appears to be actively searching it... or the moments in combat where he feels himself in peace. He always carried his wedding ring with him.

Relationships[]

Artur Drakon[]

Conner's relationship with Drakon was a near one, more akin to friendship than to leader and subordinate. They have fought much together, and obviously they respected and trusted much the other.

Others[]

Any other relationship of Conner with other people was clearly distant.
