John Geary to Decala

Lieutenant Commander Cara Decala was Commander John Geary's executive officer onboard Merlon during the Battle of Grendel.

Biography[]

Cara Decala was an officer of the Alliance Navy prior to the start of the Alliance-Syndicate War. Despite her love for being in space, her husband disliked her career choice and wished for her to be home.[1] Assigned to Merlon as executive officer, Decala served underneath of Captain John Geary when Merlon was assigned to escort a convoy through the star system of Grendel. When a Syndicate flotilla arrived in-system, Merlon was forced to engage them to protect the rest of the convoy. With Merlon severely damaged, Geary ordered Decala to abandon ship despite her objections, leaving Geary to make his supposed last stand.

Following the battle, Geary believes Decala must have reunited the various escape pods from Merlon and had them go to the nearby Alliance station.[2] Afterward, she continued to serve the Alliance and eventually gained command of her own warship. Unfortunately, while in command, she died in battle just a few years after the events in Grendel.[1]

Characteristics[]

Cara Decala was a dedicated Alliance officer. As executive officer, she would offer Geary advice as well as promising to back him in his actions in the event of a court-martial. When Geary ordered her to abandon ship, she initially requested to stay, believing she could mann the few working stations of the bridge. Geary, however, refused, believing her skills would be needed for future engagements.

While married, her relationship with her husband was strained due to the physical distances between them, as she served light-years away. John Geary is unaware if she was able to patch up her marriage problems prior to her death.
