The Battle of Baldur was a minor engagement precipitated by the need to replenish trace elements necessary to supply the fleet.

After the Battle of Ilion, Captain Desjani notes that the Dauntless is approaching the minimum for recommended fuel reserves. Captain Geary has recently become aware that this is a situation that is an issue throughout the fleet. Upon further inspection of the status reports, it becomes clear that the auxiliaries must stop production of fuel cells and certain types of ammunition soon due to the lack of critical resources. This was a surprising discovery as the auxiliaries had topped off at Sancere.

Captain Geary contacted the commander of the auxiliaries division to determine why this issue had occurred. Captain Tyrosian informed him that the automated systems had provided flawed requirement lists that had not provided enough of the materials necessary to resupply the fleet. Geary pressed further and was informed that his tactics were a direct cause for the inaccurate lists. The automated systems based the requirements on historical supply needs. Geary had been losing fewer ships while doing more maneuvering and using more long-range munition.

Geary's initial plan had been to do a fast run through the system while the auxiliaries manufactured more expendable supplies, but was forced to change his plan and resupply while in the Baldur system.

Preparation[]

Alliance[]

Prior to the attack Captain Geary held a fleet conference during which Colonel Carabali the planned raid on the mining facilities in the system.

During the conference, there were several challenges to Geary's methods. In particular, Captain Casia presses for disciplinary action again Captain Tyrosian.

Captain Geary is able to suppress the challenge to his authority and finish the conference.
